1 Richard Wagner and Patrice Chereau Der Ring Des Nibelungen
Philips 1983
this is a 7 VHS tape set of the complete Ring cycle filmed at Bayreuth sung in German and subtitled in English, includes Vol. 1 Das Rheingold; Vol. 2 Die Walkure Acts 1 and 2; Vol. 3 Die Walkure Act 3 and Documentary Fil of The Making of the Ring; Vol. 4 Siegfried Acts 1 and 2; Vol. 5 Siegfried Act. 3; Vol. 6 Gotterdammerung Prologue and Act 1; Vol. 7 Gotterdammerung Acts 2 and 3, this is a formerly owned lightly used set in fine condition and with only slight wear to the slipcase, all the original clamshell cases, According to Wikipedia, this is perhaps the most famous modern production which was the centennial production of 1976 directed by Patrice Chéreau and conducted by Pierre Boulez filmed at Bayreuth. Set in the industrial revolution, it replaced the depths of the Rhine with a hydroelectric power dam and featured grimy sets populated by men and gods in business suits. This drew heavily on the reading of the Ring as a revolutionary drama and critique of the modern world, famously described by George Bernard Shaw in 'The Perfect Wagnerite'. Early performances were booed, but the production is now often regarded as revolutionary.
