1 Mari Tomasi and Roaldus Richmond Men Against Granite
Shelburne, Vermont, U.S.A. The New England Press, Inc. 2004 1881535460 / 9781881535461 First Edition Soft Cover Very Good No Jacket
trade paperback book, 323 pages, approximately 6 by 9 inches. In the 1930s The WPA Federal Writers' Project hired authors across America to interview people from all walks of life. In Vermont, writers Mari Tomasi and Roaldus Richmond recorded the life stories of over one-hundred Barre, Vermont residents, nearly all of whom had some connection to the granite industry. In the early decades of the 20th century, quarrying and carving Barre stone was the lifeblood of the local economy, providing many with an income, but often at a fearsome cost: the health and even the lives of many workers. The covers have some rubbing with a vertical bend on the front and a bend across the upper corner; soiled spot on the right edges; overall the contents are clean and in near fine condition.
