The covers have light shelfwear with a small bend along the front bottom edge; small bends along the bottom edges of the first several pages; otherwise the contents are clean and in near fine condition. originally published by Lee and Shepard Publishers, Boston in 1897; this facsimile reprint edition was published in 1990 by Heritage Books, Inc., Bowie, Maryland, softcover book, 377 pages, approximately 5 3/8 inches wide and 8 ¼ inches high, with black and white photographs. This volume is a sequel to the author’s previous volume, Beneath Old Rooftrees, although both works cover different material and stand independently. This volume deals especially with Revolutionary patriots from Groton, Shirley, Pepperell, Danvers, and Chelmsford in Massachusetts, and Hollis in New Hampshire. There are numerous extracts from old letters and documents, and transcriptions of many tombstones. It is attractively illustrated with photos of people and places. A new name index has been added. The author was an antiquarian and genealogist who wrote numerous works on Massachusetts history.
